On Thursday 26 February 2026, a first ship bunkering operation was carried out at upstream berth 2 (PJ2M) of the North Atlantic refinery in Gravenchon, Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine. This operation marks the launch of a new bunkering service for ships transiting the Seine.

A dynamic player in the energy sector, North Atlantic today represents more than 20% of French refining capacity. Since taking over the refinery (formerly Esso), the company has been developing new activities to make the most of its industrial site in Port-Jérôme.

These initiatives include a bunkering service for ships sailing up or down the Seine.

The bunkering operation was carried out with a river barge operated by Atlantic Energy, which supplies ships directly alongside.

This service offers several advantages:

  • a local service for shipowners and maritime operators;
  • optimised port calls, with the possibility of refuelling without a detour;
  • a stronger logistical appeal for the territory.

A successful first operation

The first bunkering operation took place on Thursday 26 February 2026 with the tanker FUJI LAVA, berthed at PJ2M.

It was made possible by the joint mobilisation of the North Atlantic teams and the HAROPA PORT Rouen teams, who supported the set-up of this new service. It illustrates the ability of port partners to coordinate and support the emergence of new services for maritime traffic on the Seine.

It is also part of the momentum driven by HAROPA PORT, which supports the industrial and port projects of its partners in order to strengthen the range of services for ships and the competitiveness of the Seine logistics corridor.
